This house on Meadow Lane in Southampton is surrounded by water, sand and sky. Working with architect Peter Pennoyer, it was rebuilt from the ground up using the original footprint as template.
-
A subtle color scheme is used throughout the house, beginning with the entry hall where a delicate shade of green is combined with gray baseboards.
-
The living room is centered on an antique Axminster carpet. The design and strong colors of the rug anchor the furniture, at the same time counterbalancing the more muted colors of the upholstery and curtains. The room has a set of illustrations from Henri Matisse's Jazz series.
-
A view of the opposite end of the living room further shows the delicate interplay of light and color. The subtle colors of the pillows, green garden stools, and mirrored tables add texture and depth.
-
The sitting room serves as a counterpoint to the adjoining living room with less formal furnishings such as seagrass matting and bamboo tables.
-
The elaborate curtains feature a border design that was taken from a 19th century pattern book which was enlarged to suit the space.
-
The library is painted to resemble antique pine. The low table is 18th century and the upholstery is comprised of a mixture of solid and patterned linens.
-
The dining room has sophisticated details such as William Morris wallpaper and a Venetian chandelier, but feels relaxed when combined with bamboo shades instead of curtains. A pair of gilt mirrors placed at either end of the room catch the light from the candle powered chandelier.
-
The tower room takes full advantage of it heights and panoramic view of Mecox Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The window shades have steciled Greek Key borders.
