Town & Country magazine invited Thomas Jayne to decorate their first showhouse in a newly built house on the historic Ford Plantation property in Savannah, Georgia. The story of the decoration was turned into a feature that later appeared in the magazine.

The entry hall's striped wallpaper by Cole & Sons was the first thing chosen for the decoration and became the leitmotif for the entire house.

The apple green custom embroidered curtains in the living room contrast with the sisal carpet and contemporary furniture.

In the dining area an antique Boston sideboard is paired with a Prouve style table and rattan chairs. The "flaming head" sculptures are the work of sculptor and designer, Oriel Harwood.

The breakfast room combines a Saarinen table, slipcovered lolling chairs, a plaid drugget and a mobile from the Guggenheim Museum shop.

The library's rich faux bois paneling serves as a rich backdrop for the yellow sofa and green draped table.

The hallway features painted floors, a chinoiserie lantern, and a demi-lune table paired with a watercolor strategically placed at the end of the corridor.

The sun room has butterfly kites strung above and an arrangement of sculptures placed on pedestals below.

The screened porch with its lake view, can be used comfortably as a living room for most of the year in the Savannah climate. Hence its decoration with a set of comfortable "Gothic" rattan furniture, plenty of tables to set drinks and lighting to extend its usefulness into the evening.

The focus of the master bedroom is the canopy bed draped with tailored fabric panels and ribbon ties at the posts. Feather finials lighten the mood along with the dramatic portrait by the artist Alison Nash.

The master bedroom walls are hand stried to adds nuance and texture. 19th century style sheer curtains and valances hang from rosettes.

A guest bedroom has upholstered silk walls stenciled with enlarged kimono motifs. The full height yellow serge curtains add a strong vertical element that makes the room feel larger and brighter.

The guest bedroom also features a skirted vanity made with the same silk used on the wall. A Wrightsman style chair in blue taffeta and a tufted ottoman covered in a bold print add luxurious, tactile notes to the room.

Another guest bedroom is underpinned by a bold striped wall to wall carpet set parallel to the bed. A group of animal and safari prints above the bed stand out against the ochre walls.
